Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 July 2026
Interdiction is built to need as little of your data as possible. There are no accounts, no advertising, and no third-party trackers. This policy explains the little we do handle, why, and your rights over it.
Who we are
Interdiction is published by Andrew Whaley (a sole trader based in the United Kingdom), the “data controller” for the purposes of the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. You can reach us at support@interdiction.app or through the support page.
What we collect, and why
1. The game (web, iOS, Android) — no personal data
The game collects no personal information. Everything it remembers is stored only on your own device to make the game work:
- your last chosen board size and opponent difficulty;
- whether you’ve opted out of contributing anonymous game data (see below);
- whether you own the premium opponent unlock.
This is kept in your browser’s local storage (web) or the app’s private settings (iOS/Android). It never leaves your device except as described below, and clearing the app/site data removes it.
2. Anonymous game contributions (to improve the AI)
To make the computer opponent better, the game can upload a compact, anonymous record of a completed match — the random map seed and the sequence of moves. It contains no personal data: no account, no identifiers, nothing about you. Our server re-simulates each upload and discards anything that doesn’t reproduce, so the training data stays trustworthy. This is opt-out: a checkbox on the New Game screen (on by default) turns it off, and turning it off stops all uploads.
3. Website analytics — privacy-first, no cookies
When you visit the website (not the game itself), our own server records a minimal, aggregate page-view log. We record:
| Recorded | Not recorded |
|---|---|
| the page path, the referring site (if any), a coarse country (from your network provider’s header, if present), and the date | your IP address, no cookies, no device fingerprint, no cross-site tracking, no advertising IDs |
We also count anonymous “funnel” events — e.g. that a “Play” button was clicked — with no personal data attached. All of this is first-party (our own server; no Google Analytics or similar) and is used only to understand how many people visit and play.
4. In-app purchases
The premium opponent unlock (the Major and Colonel tiers) is sold through Apple’s App Store and Google Play. When you buy it, the transaction — including any payment details — is handled entirely by Apple or Google under their privacy policies. We receive only a confirmation that the purchase is valid; we never see or store your payment information. The unlock itself is recorded only as a flag on your own device.
5. Support requests
If you contact us through the support form or by email, we keep your message and the email address you give us so we can reply and follow up. We use it only for that purpose and don’t share it. Tell us if you’d like your correspondence deleted and we’ll remove it.
Cookies
The website sets no cookies and uses no third-party cookies. The game stores a few non-personal settings in local storage, as described above, which are not cookies and are not used for tracking.
Legal bases (UK GDPR)
- Legitimate interests — the minimal, anonymised site analytics, to run and improve the service.
- Consent — the opt-out anonymous game contribution (you can withdraw it any time via the New Game checkbox).
- Legitimate interests / taking steps at your request — handling a support message you send us.
Sharing
We do not sell your data and do not share it with advertisers. The only third parties involved are Apple and Google (for in-app purchases and app distribution) and our hosting provider, which processes requests on our behalf. Aggregate, anonymised game data may inform the AI but is not personal to you.
Retention
Anonymous analytics and game contributions are retained in aggregate for as long as they’re useful for running and improving the game. Support correspondence is kept only as long as needed to help you, then deleted.
Children
Interdiction is a general-audience strategy game and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Because the game collects no personal data and requires no account, there is nothing for a child to disclose in normal play.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or erase any personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict its processing, and to data portability. Since the game holds no personal data, this mainly concerns support correspondence. To exercise any right, email support@interdiction.app. You also have the right to complain to the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
Changes
We’ll update this page if our practices change and revise the “last updated” date above.
